Wax sculptor Marie Tussaud founded it 1835. It is well-known to all as Madame Tussauds. In 1761, Madame Tussaud was born Marie Grosholtz in Strasbourg, France. Her father, a German soldier, died in battle before her birth. She had an opportunity to work with Dr. Philippe Curtius, a doctor and wax modeller. She was an Art Tutor to King Louis XVI’s sister around 1780.

She married to Francois Tussaud, Engineer in 1795 but she moved to England without her husband in 1802 but with her eldest son. During the next 33 years, Madame Tussaud toured every major city in Britain with her collection. By 1835, tired of traveling Madame Tussaud was established ‘The Baker Street Bazaar, London. Madame Tussaud died in 1884. Her grandson moved the attraction to its current site on Marylebone Road in 1884

Madame Tussauds continues regularly to add figures that reflect contemporary public opinion and celebrity popularity. Some of Madame Tussauds’ original work and earliest relics are still on display in London, including the death masks she was forced to make during the French Revolution and the Guillotine that beheaded Marie Antoinette.
